TW: This book contains death
I feel like I can confidently say that this easily made my top 10 favorite books. This was a hauntingly beautiful read. The title is what drew me to it at first because I was like "well this just gives it away" but I realize that this book is so much more than that.
They Both Die At the End is set in a society where you get a call on your death day at 12am stating you have until 11:59pm to live...and there's no way of escaping it. So when two young boys, Rufus and Mateo, get the Death Alert you can only imagine how unsettling it must feel to literally live the day like it's your last. They meet each other through an app that gives you a last chance at life on your last day.
While the concept is scary and can kickstart a little anxious feeling, you start to realize that this book isn't about death at all, but about living. As you follow the two boys through their day, you start to get a wider perspective on life. Not to mention the ending that leaves your mouth wide open.
