Electric Idol
As promised in my 'Top 10 Romance Books' post I read and reviewed the second book in Katee Roberts Dark Olympus series, Electric Idol. I will say while yes this could slide as a stand alone book, you would understand a lot of the context a lot more if you read the first book, Neon Gods. I loved this book for many reasons, besides just the captivating love story. Katee Robert also included realistic aspects into her books including the pressures of social media, trauma, and making Psyche a plus sized character and including her struggles in the clothing industry. Not only is it a romance, but its a pleasingly authentic read.
This book tells a story of Persephone's sister, Psyche and Aphrodite's son Eros. Psyche is hiding her own business trying to survive in a eat-or-be-eaten world, when a simple act of kindness to Eros one night after he assassinated someone for his mom (something he's accustomed to being raised by the most beautifully competitive person in Olympus) put her in danger. In a fit of rage, Aphrodite tells Eros he wants Psyche's actual heart.
Crazy. I know. It gets better. I promise no spoilers.
Eros meets up with Psyche but can't kill her, so instead the only other rational thing to do is marry her.
I told you. This all happens within the first few chapters. And it's also on the back of the book.
The rest of the book takes you on the love thats being build between Psyche and Eros with friendship, sex, secret spaces, and companionship. Eros realizes his true love for Psyche when he find himself wanting to keep her safe and alive and doing anything in his power to do that. I can't wait to see where Roberts takes us in her third book in the series Wicked Beauty thats expected to come out this year in June 2022.
