Chasing the Boogeyman

By: Richard Chizmar

Mystery/Horror

Wrapping up October and giving you this frightfully fitting read for Halloween, Chasing the Boogeyman has to be the best mystery/thriller I've read this season and possibly this year. The story takes place in small town Edgewood, Maryland. Everyone knows everyone in this tightly knitted community. When Richard Chizmar returns to his hometown after getting his degree in journaling he comes to find himself trapped in a real life horror story. Young girls start going missing only to be found in various parts of town only. The killer places the girls in poses to be found giving a twisted playful message to the town and the police letting it be known that the boogeyman cannot easily be tracked down.

The writing style of this book is very slow and suspenseful, yet full of thrilling detail that keeps you wrapped up in the investigation. The steady storytelling gives any murder mystery/serial killer enthusiast the satisfaction of picking out the timeless behaviors and traits of a classic killer. With each page turned your suspicions jump from character to character leading to the ending that had a pleasing chill. You can also be like me and guess the killer right, but still be beyond pleased in the way it wraps up the read and having the awarding knowledge of knowing how to spot a killer. ;)

Happy Halloween!
